The Avengers: A Must See

The Avengers – Review 4 1/2 Stars

By Kyle St John Peters

If you’re following The Avengers‘ success online; or heard from basically everyone who’s watched it, that it’s awesome; or seen the 93% rating it has on Rotten Tomatoes; or have been quietly (or not) waiting for it over the course of it’s 5 movie build-up, then I don’t need to persuade you to go and see it. All I’ll do is add to your excitement, and tell you that it definitely lives up to all the hype and hoopla and that it really is a phenomenal film.

Writer/Director Joss Whedon (Serenity), finally gets his Hollywood break at age 49 and has shown anyone who ever doubted him just how talented he is. He deftly balances all the heroes, giving each of them ample screen time and interaction. In fact, balance is the key word here… He balances the film with just the right amount of action, humour and characterization. The set-pieces are stupendous, but never does he sideline his characters amidst the chaos.

The other fantastic balancing act he pulls off is in his script and his dialogue. The character’s egos and interactions are slick and sparky, making for a fun ride, even when no one is smashing anything.

And finally… the Hulk has been used well in a feature film. In Joss we trust… Hollywood should have given him $220 Million a long time ago…
